Tables of standardized measurements

Tables of standardized measurements

A few times ago I decided to sew dresses and other stuff for my nieces. Sewing for adult it's okay I can do it. Repairing razmoket clothes without any problems. Sewing for girls aged 3 and 8 years old well I don't know what the measurements can be... the arm length, the length from the waist to the knee... being told that the 3 years old measures 100 cm doesn't help me at all !!!

So I spent quite some time looking for measurements and I had difficulties to find them. I decided to regroup all the measurements I could find (baby, girls and boys, men and women) in one document for me to use while sewing.

I offer you this document (récapitulatif_tailles_vetements_en.pdf) in this post. Please note that I only traduce the text. All the measurements are still in centimeters. I will make a version in inches as soon as possible.

I hope this will help you feel better when you will be told "take the length from waist to knee" in a tutorial.

I will also publish a post with measurements taken directly on commercial size. Last week-end I went to a big shop and I had the opportunity to buy long sleeves t-shirt and leggings for nearly nothing. Why bother with sewing when you can find one long sleeves t-hirt and a legging for 5 € in size 4 years and 6 € in size 10 years ? Just for the pleasure of recycling, creating and most of all to see their eyes sparkling when I will give them home made clothes...

I also give you the AFNOR file with child measurements. This file was made in 1987. I think nowadays children are bigger than children in these days. By the way, you'll have it as a complementary source.
