Free simple shawl (knitting for cold times)

Last year, I was in the mood for knitting shawls for the "bed readers" of my familly. As these shawl are essentially made for bedtimes, they don't need to be marvellous, they need to be warm and enveloping.

The first I made is the blue one on the right side of the photo. It's knitted in a mix of new wool and acrylic... which felted during the first washing despite being washed with cold water...

I stretched the wet fibers and I managed to have the shawl back to its original size (so glad !!)

My mummy found the idea of a shawl very interesting so I knitted one in changing blue acrylic for her birthday.

My blue shawl is very warm but not large enough to be put on the neck and on the chest at the same time. It's really cold in my bedroom in winter (17°) and it's hard to read by this temperature.

So I decided to by some acrylic balls from Zeeman. This wool is less warm but very much affordable : 0.50€/ball against 3€/ ball for the blue one. I also bought a 60 cm pair of needles (by that time I didn't know that circular needles existed). Then I knitted, I knitted until I got my black shawl. I really love it : it doesn't scratch, it's very warm and allows me do be wrapped into it during winter nights.

For Christmas I knitted my mum a 2nd shawl as big as my black one, in the same acrylic but with changing colors from black to grey. Therefor, my dad can steal my mum's old shawl to be warm while reading in bed ;-)

The pattern is in a PDF file. You can access the French version in this post of the blog.

Happy knitting !!!
